Going back a few years!
Break in the winter weather, time to play. Get out for a bit to hike and make some lunch high on a cliff.
Warmed by the winter sun. melting the snow away!
In winter the southern exposed canyon sides (North side of any canyon with a slope that faces the south) receives the lion’s share of the winter’s sun and when there are rocks on the warmed face they grab the heat and soak up the sunshine radiating the heat back providing warmth and drying out a place to be chillin’. Kicking it on a winter’s day.

Burning twigs in the can stove cooking noodles high on a cliff the can stove is fuel efficient and leaves no trace. No one can even tale we’ve been there cooking anything. It’s a little bulky but worth the space in my pack basket. Besides its fire and I never get tired of cooking over flame. Fueled with twigs… this is my variation on the can stove… many variations…I have taught Scout groups how to make the one that I am using here. It can be pressed into service in places where you wouldn’t even think a fire could be possible, like on this cliff.
I could have used my rocket stove as well but there is nothing like burning wood, real fire!
